Have you ever wondered what is like to sail inside a… volcano? Our cruises will take you sailing inside the famous Santorini Caldera!
The Caldera once formed a full circular ring, but the devastating volcanic explosion that occurred 3500 years ago gave it the shape it has today. A great part of the Caldera was destroyed and submerged underwater, creating a natural harbor almost four miles in diameter.
Because of this volcanic eruption and its history, Santorini is often connected with the myth of the lost Atlantis, the mythical continent that plunged to the bottom of the sea.
While sailing along the Caldera, we get the chance to see from afar the villages of Oia and Fira. Oia is located on the northernmost part and Fira is located atop the eastern cliffs of the Caldera. Both villages offer breathtaking panoramic views to the Santorini Caldera.
Today, the Caldera is still a subject of study by scientists and archaeologists.
The Santorini Caldera is definitely one of the views you just cannot miss while relaxing upon our vessels!
